Transparent and Accountable Government
Together with my slate of Jon Arnburg, Ben Nett, Susan Khalil, and Brian Green, I will re-open the decision-making process in our town government. I will not hold private meetings with developers. I will improve the public records of our meetings, which currently hide the details of what was said by members of Council, and the public.
Lower Water Rates
We will dedicate a portion of the $3.1 million a year in Meals Tax revenue to paying down the sewer debt. Now this exising tax is funneled into excessive reserves in the general fund and squandered on wasteful spending.
Protect Our Town’s Character
Purcellville’s character as a small town is what drew many of its 9,000 residents to live here. Aggressive development can make this town change in ways that reduce its charm by drawing traffic and crime to one of the safest communities in Virginia.
We must not compromise our town’s charm and traditions. We should not create further financial burdens for our town residents. The potential financial effects on our residents will always be my first consideration when evaluating existing and new projects.
Where we seek changes, they must benefit residents. I will work to improve traffic through modernization of signaling, and safety improvements for pedestrians.
I will always put citizens first, not developers. We do not want to become Leesburg or Ashburn. I am not for extending our borders through annexations which will change the character of our town with more traffic, higher taxes and higher utility bills.
I am running on a citizens first, slow growth, fiscal responsibility, and transparency platform—and I ask for your vote.
Citizens First
I currently serve on the Town of Purcellville’s Planning Commission where I have been working on the rewrite of the zoning ordinance—getting it in line with the town’s comprehensive plan. Since zoning is paramount to protecting our town, I advocate for our updated zoning ordinance that maintains our town’s character and preserves our way of life and well-being. I have been diligent in standing firm against inappropriate development pressure to allow uses which our citizens do not want. Purcellville’s Comprehensive Plan is a document that was built from extensive surveys of what the residents of this town want to keep in place and what they might want to change. Zoning and the uses that it permits is driven by the Comprehensive Plan. Adhering to the Comprehensive Plan is the first duty of Planning Commissioners, and every elected official in town.
Our town’s future should be determined by its citizens—not by outside developer interests who want to extend our borders and also allow uses in our town that will threaten our town’s charm. I am against annexations which will extend our borders and allow high density and out of character uses. This will also increase taxes, lead to higher utility rates, increase traffic and change our small-town dramatically. I ask you to vote for Chris Bertaut for mayor, and me, Brian C. Green, along with Carl B. “Ben” Nett, Susan F. Khalil and Jonathan “Jon” Arnburg.
Slow Growth
When elected, I will be a committed public servant by leveraging my career strengths in strategic planning, open and honest communication, and fostering collaboration. I am skilled at breaking down barriers and building consensus.
I have led numerous initiatives that have created positive changes and sustainable growth. My expertise in fostering effective communication ensures that all stakeholders are informed and engaged, creating a foundation of trust and accountability.
As a candidate for town council, I am focused on promoting slow, responsible growth, always ensuring the residents’ best interests are at heart. I believe that maintaining the town’s unique character is essential to preserving its charm and ensuring a high quality of life for all residents. My approach will emphasize careful consideration of growth opportunities, balancing progress with the need to protect the community’s heritage and values.
I am driven by a desire to create a bright future for my children and all the town’s youth. My dedication to service, combined with my strategic mindset and community-oriented values, make me an ideal candidate to represent and lead the town toward a prosperous, well-balanced future that values family, community, and the preservation of the town’s unique character for generations to come.
Paid for and authorized by Chris Bertaut for Mayor, Authorized by Ben Nett, Susan Khalil, Brian Green and Jon Arnburg for Town Council.
